Contributor Guidelines

Everyone has a story. If yours is worth telling—we’re listening.

What We’re About

At Stories Today, we don’t care about perfect grammar or sounding like a novelist. We care about honest, human storytelling—words that come from lived experiences, real emotions, and the quiet moments that leave a mark.

We welcome stories of all kinds, including—but absolutely not limited to:

  • Travel tales from the road, sky, sea, or your own backyard
  • Personal reflections on love, heartbreak, family, friendship, growing up—or growing apart
  • Turning points—moments that shifted your perspective or changed something inside you
  • People stories—someone unforgettable, or someone who taught you something
  • Work life stories—funny, frustrating, strange, or surprising
  • Struggles—because even the hard stuff deserves a voice
  • Joyful moments—because not every story needs to carry weight
  • Culture and memory—food, music, language, heritage, community
  • The unexpected—messy, quiet, wild, slow, ordinary, beautiful

If it’s true to you and you can write it in a way that makes someone pause, feel something, or simply enjoy the read—you’re in the right place.

What We Look For

We’re not strict, but we do care about the heart of a good story. Here’s what we value most:

1. Your voice, not your résumé

We’re not looking for “writers”—we’re looking for storytellers. Be real. Be you.

2. Clarity over cleverness

Don’t try to impress. Write like you’re talking to a friend who’s really listening.

3. Honest emotion

Your story doesn’t have to be dramatic. It just has to be true. Don’t invent or exaggerate—authenticity always resonates.

4. A little structure goes a long way

You don’t need a template, but readers appreciate a beginning, a middle, and some kind of end—even if it’s open-ended. Use subheadings if it helps. Break up long paragraphs.

5. Make us feel

Whether it’s a story about grief or a cup of coffee on a Tuesday morning—if it moves us, we want it.

What We Don’t Publish

To keep the space safe, honest, and meaningful, we do not accept:

  • AI-generated content
  • Plagiarized, borrowed, or repurposed stories
  • Hate speech, discrimination, or anything meant to harm
  • Made-up quotes or false facts
  • Advertorials or promotional content disguised as stories
  • Generic listicles, how-tos, or SEO-heavy filler

Submission Guidelines

Length: 800–1,200 words is a sweet spot, but we’re flexible. If your story needs more (or less) space, that’s okay.

Format: Send your story as a Word Doc or Google Doc. Please avoid PDFs or pasting into the email body.

Photos: Have images to go with your story? Great! Just make sure they’re yours or you have the rights to share them.

How to Submit

Email your story to [insert email address] with the subject line:
Story Submission – [Your Title]

Feel free to include a brief note about why you wrote it or what it means to you. It’s not required, but we love the context.

You don’t need to be published, have a portfolio, or be “qualified.”
If you’ve lived it—and can tell it with heart—we want to read it.

We do our best to reply within 1–2 weeks, but we’re a small team. Thanks for your patience.

A Few Final Notes

  • We may lightly edit for clarity or grammar, but we’ll always preserve your voice.
  • If major edits are needed, we’ll reach out to you first.
  • Once published, we ask that you don’t republish the piece elsewhere.

Why We Do This

Because stories connect us.
Because someone out there might need to hear yours.
Because the world has enough content. What it needs is more truth.

So if you’ve seen something, felt something, lived something—write it down.
Then send it to us.

We’re not here to chase clicks.
We’re here to share stories.
