My mate Dennis from Chicago’s been sending me articles about this American politician for months. “You’ve got to see this madness,” he keeps saying. “This woman makes our local councillors look like saints.” He’s talking about Mayor Tiffany Henyard, and blimey, what a story this is.
Dennis lives about 20 miles from Dolton, where all this drama’s been happening. He’s been watching this whole saga play out like some sort of political soap opera. Can’t say I blame him; it’s proper mental what’s been going on.
Who Actually Is Mayor Tiffany Henyard?

Tiffany Henyard was the mayor of Dolton, Illinois, which is a small village just outside Chicago with about 20,000 people. But she wasn’t just any mayor. The woman called herself the “super mayor” because she also held the position of Thornton Township supervisor. Two jobs, double the power, and apparently double the trouble.
Started like any other local politician, promising to clean up the town and help residents. The problem is, things went sideways pretty quickly. As mayor and supervisor, Henyard was involved in numerous controversies involving allegations of financial mismanagement, corruption, fraud, and other misconduct.
My brother works in local government back home, and he always says the biggest troublemakers are the ones who think they’re above the rules. Sounds like Henyard fits that description perfectly.
The Spending Scandals
Here’s where things get properly mad. During her time in office, Henyard spent money like it was going out of fashion. We’re talking about lavish trips, expensive security details, and questionable contracts, and she took all of this on the taxpayers’ dime.
Dennis showed me some of the figures. The woman was spending more on personal security than some small countries spend on their entire police force. Meanwhile, residents were complaining about potholes not getting fixed and basic services being cut.
What really got people wound up was her attitude about it all. When questioned about the spending, she’d act like people didn’t understand how important she was. Classic case of power going to someone’s head, if you ask me.
The Legal Troubles Keep Coming
Fast forward to this year, and Mayor Tiffany Henyard’s problems have gone from bad to worse. The woman got voted out of office in the spring, as the residents had clearly had enough. But that wasn’t the end of her troubles.
In June, she was hauled into court over Freedom of Information Act violations. Basically, when people asked for public records about how she spent taxpayer money, she refused to hand them over. A Cook County judge ordered Henyard to appear in court to answer claims that during her time in office, she failed to follow state transparency laws and turn over spending and other records.
What did she do? Her lawyer pleaded the Fifth Amendment on her behalf. You know it’s serious when politicians start taking the Fifth. That’s usually what people do when they’re worried about incriminating themselves.
The Daily Fines Situation
The story gets even better; the judge held her in contempt of court and started fining her $1,000 per day until she produced the documents. That’s proper money, even for someone who was spending taxpayer funds like confetti.
My accountant mate always says the cover-up is worse than the crime. If Henyard had just been transparent from the start, this whole mess might’ve been avoided. But no, she had to dig her heels in and refuse to cooperate.

The Book Deal Madness
Now here’s the bit that really takes the biscuit. While she’s dodging legal troubles and owing daily fines, former Chicago mayor Tiffany Henyard announces a $99 “tell-all” autobiography amid legal troubles. Ninety-nine quid for a book about her time in office!
Dave nearly choked on his coffee when he saw that. “She’s selling her story while refusing to tell it in court,” he said. Fair point. The audacity is almost impressive, in a mental sort of way.
What Happened to Dolton

The Village of Dolton has officially elected a new mayor, marking the end of Tiffany Henyard’s tumultuous tenure. Jason House took over in May, and apparently, one of the first things they did was remove her name from the sign outside Village Hall.
That’s got to sting. One day, you’re the “super mayor,” and the next da,y they’re literally erasing your name from the building. Politics can be brutal like that.
Dave says the new mayor’s got a right mess to clean up. Years of questionable spending and legal battles don’t just disappear when someone new takes office.
The Federal Investigation
Oh, and did I mention there’s a federal investigation? Henyard has been under federal investigation, with subpoenas delivered to Dolton Village Hall and Thornton Township offices last spring. When the FBI starts sniffing around, you know things are serious.
My uncle always said small-town politics could be the most corrupt because there’s less scrutiny. Looks like Henyard proved that point perfectly.
The Aftermath
These days, Mayor Tiffany Henyard is no longer mayor of anything. Lost her election, facing multiple lawsuits, owing daily court fines, and trying to sell a book about her experiences for nearly a hundred quid.
Dennis reckons she’ll end up on some reality TV show eventually. “That’s where all failed politicians go,” he says. Wouldn’t surprise me at all.
What This All Means
The whole Tiffany Henyard saga shows what happens when local politicians think they’re untouchable. Started with questionable spending, escalated to refusing transparency, and ended with federal investigations and daily court fines.
Residents of Dolton probably learned a valuable lesson about keeping an eye on their elected officials. Sometimes the people who promise to clean things up end up making the biggest mess of all.
Dennis is still sending me updates about the legal cases. “Better than Netflix,” he says. Can’t argue with that logic.
