Prince Harry and King Charles: A Cup of Tea After 19 Months of Silence

Published on September 18, 2025 by Carter Lemke

Did you watch the news last week? I was scrolling through my phone as I sipped my morning cuppa when it appeared: Harry and Charles, at last, face-to-face after 19 months of utter silence. It made me think of my relationship with my dad, actually. We had a proper falling out a few years back over something silly and didn’t speak for months. At times, you need something big to get families back together.

Everything about this Prince Harry King Charles meeting has got everyone talking, and I’ve been lapping up all of the information as it comes in.

What Actually Went Down

So here’s what we know. Wednesday, September 10: Harry rocks up to Clarence House (his dad’s London gaff) for something they’re calling a “private tea”. Sounds dead posh, doesn’t it? But seriously, it’s just a father and son sharing a brew and a chat after nearly two years of not speaking.

The meeting was their first in person in 19 months and lasted less than an hour, according to royal sources. Not exactly a marathon heart-to-heart, but hey, it’s a beginning.

Officials at Buckingham Palace confirmed that the two men met for a private tea at the king’s private residence, which is more than we usually get from them about family drama. They had to have believed this was worth announcing.

Did Prince Harry Meet with King Charles? The Answer Everyone’s Been Waiting For

Ok, let’s get this out of the way because I know you must be curious about it. Yes, they absolutely did meet. After months of speculation, leaked stories, and Harry’s claims in interviews that his father wouldn’t even take his calls, he and his dad finally sat down together.

Prince Harry made a rare trip back to the United Kingdom this week, meeting with his father, King Charles III for the first time since February 2024. This amounts to a very long time for a father and son not to meet each other, especially when one of them is going through cancer treatment.

I remember when my mate Steve fell out with his old man. Says he didn’t talk to him for three years, and that the only reason they ended up talking was because Steve’s mum actually locked them in a room together at Christmas. Sometimes families need a little push, don’t they?

The Backstory We All Know

To be honest, we’ve all been enraptured by this royal soap opera for years now. Harry and Meghan left the royal fold, trundled off to California, and did that explosive Oprah interview. Then there was the Netflix series and book “Spare”, where Harry absolutely savaged everyone, especially Camilla.

Charles has been grappling with his cancer diagnosis, attempting to be king and witnessing his family fall apart under the glare of public attention. Can’t be easy, can it? Being a monarch and also somebody’s dad at the same time is annoying, especially when your son is content airing all of your family’s dirty laundry on international television.

What really got me was when Harry said in that interview earlier this year his dad wasn’t taking his calls anymore. Think about the fact that you can’t ring your own father when he’s sick. Must’ve been killing him inside, whatever their differences.

What This Meeting Really Means

Now, royal experts are going mental trying to read between the lines of this Prince Harry King Charlesmeeting. Since the reunion on September 10 at Clarence House, royal watchers have been eager to see the next step regarding the Duke of Sussex’s relationship with the royal family.

But here’s my take: this wasn’t about grand gestures or public reconciliation. This was just a sick father wanting to see his son. King Charles wouldn’t want to turn down a request for a meeting from Prince Harry, both “as a parent” and to get an update on his grandchildren, according to royal authors.

That’s the bit that gets me emotional, actually. Charles hasn’t seen Archie and Lilibet properly since they were tiny. He’s missing out on watching his grandkids grow up because of this family feud. That’s got to hurt.

The Elephant in the Room – Camilla

Here’s where it gets interesting, though. Queen Camilla is said to remain deeply hurt by Prince Harry’s past remarks, with insiders suggesting she is unlikely to forgive easily. I really can’t say I blame her.

In “Spare“, Harry proper went for Camilla, calling her dangerous and saying she leaked stories to get better press. If someone wrote that about my stepmum in a book read by millions, I’d struggle to get over it too.

But Charles is stuck in the middle, isn’t he? He loves his son, but he also loves his wife. That’s a horrible position for anyone to be in.

What Happens Next?

The big question everyone’s asking is whether this tea and biscuits session is the beginning of something bigger or a one-off. Royal experts say that the post-reunion future should be “handled with care”, and that sounds right.

Some experts are viewing Prince Harry’s recent sit-down with King Charles as a strategic attempt to repair his damaged reputation. Perhaps, but I believe it’s more straightforward than that. You know, sometimes you miss your dad, don’t you?

My gut feeling? This won’t fix everything overnight. Too much has been spoken, too many bridges have been burnt. But it’s a start. And sometimes that’s all you need.

The Human Side of It All

What the whole thing reminds me of most is how ordinary it all is, behind the palaces and titles. It’s a family that has fallen apart, whether due to illness, divorce, kids growing up away from grandparents or stepfamily drama. Sound familiar?

Every family I know has some version of this going on. One person not talking to another, long-time grudges being held, children caught in the middle. The only distinction is that the Windsors do it with all the world watching.

When my dad and I finally sorted our issues out, it started with just one phone call. Nothing dramatic, just “Alright, how are you?” Then slowly, bit by bit, we built things back up. Maybe that’s what’s happening here.

The Reality Check

Look, I’m not saying this meeting fixes everything. William still isn’t speaking to Harry properly. The rest of the family are probably still furious about the book and the Netflix series. And Camilla’s clearly not ready to kiss and make up.

But Charles is 76, he’s been through cancer, he’s king of the country, and he just wanted to see his son. That’s pretty human, really.

Whether Harry moves back to the UK, whether the grandkids get to know their grandfather properly, or whether the brothers ever sort their issues out, all these matters are still up in the air. But at least father and son are talking again.

And honestly? In a world full of broken families and people too proud to make the first move, that’s something worth celebrating.

Sometimes the most important conversations happen over a cup of tea in your dad’s front room. Even if that front room happens to be in a royal palace.
